Flu activity increased in Lancaster County as it becomes widespread in the state.

In the week ending on Jan. 6, 2,791 flu tests were ordered with 192 confirmed positive for Influenza A and 29 for Influenza B.

Forty-eight flu cases have been reported in the county since Oct. 1, according to the weekly flu report from the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. Reports of respiratory virus also remain elevated in Lancaster County.

There were no new flu-related deaths in the latest report, but there have been three flu-associated deaths in the state this season with two in Lancaster County. All three have been elderly adults. One was from the Southeast District Health Department area, which includes Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson counties.
