A house fire in Lincoln's Edenton South neighborhood caused a small power outage for several homes Saturday afternoon.

The fire started in the garage of a home at 7440 Stevens Ridge Road at about 2 p.m. It spread from the garage to the second floor of the house.

A breaker in the transformer in the house's backyard tripped because of the fire, said Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg of Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

Gegg said that only a couple homes were affected by the outage and that the family and pets who live in the house were able to get out safely.

However, there was about $100,000 damage to the house and $60,000 to the contents. Gegg said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
