Parents of Lincoln Southwest High School students got an e-mail Thursday telling them about a “so-called death list” prepared by another student.
Southwest officials sent the e-mail home to make sure parents knew about the list — which officials don’t consider a risk — because students were talking about it, said Marilyn Moore, LPS associate superintendent for instruction.
“I think it was to confirm to parents it was something that happened outside of Southwest,” Moore said.
Southwest officials referred all questions to the district office.
The e-mail said a list of Southwest students was created on a computer outside of the school and was brought to the attention of school officials by police.
The e-mail’s author and those on the list are friends, according to the e-mail. The school already has notified families of the students on the list.
Bill Kuehn, LPS security specialist, said the girl who wrote the list on a computer at work hangs out with those she named. Police interviewed her and don’t think she meant the students any harm, Kuehn said.
He said he’s not aware of any disciplinary action taken against the girl since the list was created off campus.
Police said earlier this week that the 16-year-old girl was fired from a her job at a south Lincoln grocery store May 15 for misusing a computer in the video department.
Grocery store officials called police after they checked the computer and found two text documents, one about the girl’s experience working there and a second called a “death list” with seven first names on it.
