Seacrest Field’s east parking lot will be paved as part of the football and soccer stadium's renovation.

The $4.4 million project originally called for paving the east parking lot, but officials dropped that portion of the project to stay within their budget. There’s been enough savings on the project so far to add it back in, according to LPS Operations Director Scott Wieskamp.

On Tuesday, the Lincoln Board of Education approved a $436,282 expenditure to pave the east parking lot, adding curbs, gutters, a sidewalk, seeding and trees for landscaping in islands that help delineate the parking area from the road. Work already has begun.

The east parking lot is also used for baseball and soccer games at Den Hartog Field. Plans call for also expanding paving on Seacrest Field's west parking lot.

The renovation includes replacing the stadium's bleachers and press box. The stadium also will get a new scoreboard with video capabilities, which is being paid partially with donations.
