The University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Friday named Kathy Farrell as the dean of the College of Business.

Farrell, who has been a business faculty member at UNL since 1993, led the college as the interim dean for nearly a year after Donde Plowman, the former business college dean, was named executive vice chancellor.

Farrell said she was honored be named dean of a college experiencing a burst of growth both in enrollment and in its faculty and staff numbers, since 2010.

"With the opening of Howard L. Hawks Hall, the state-of-the-art home for Nebraska Business, and unprecedented growth in students, programs, faculty and research, this college is poised to begin a new era of excellence," Farrell said in a statement.

Plowman said Farrell is "exactly the right person" to lead the college.

"Overwhelming support from faculty, staff, students and members of the larger business community make this an exciting appointment," Plowman said. "I am confident in her unique leadership abilities and look forward to working with her in this important role."
