Lincoln police discovered a budding marijuana grow operation Saturday morning while investigating the theft of two hookah pipes.
Officers went to 2965 Starr St. at about 4:30 a.m. after residents reported that two strangers, one armed with a handgun, forced their way inside and took two hookahs worth $35, Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said.
As officers asked questions, the residents became evasive and uncooperative, Flood said. Officers saw fresh marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia and several bottles of fertilizer lying around. They also saw light shining from under a door barred with a padlock and a power cord snaking into the room.
Officers got a search warrant, returned and found three marijuana plants in the early stages of growth, as well as grow lights and a fan to control humidity, Flood said.
Police jailed Danar Kawa Hassan, 19, on suspicion of manufacturing marijuana. They cited his roommates for having marijuana paraphernalia.
