A Nebraska City man was killed Monday when his car was hit by a semi truck, police say.
Richard Fairbanks, 64, was driving south in a 1997 Buick Lesabre and attempting to cross Nebraska 2 when the car was hit by a Kenworth semi going west. A witness told police that Fairbanks ran a red light.
The semi was driven by a 61-year-old Illinois woman, who was not injured.
Otoe County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Mike Holland said in a news release that the accident occurred at 12:20 p.m., near U.S. Highway 75, just south of Nebraska City.
The car was hit in the driver's side, and Fairbanks was taken to nearby St. Mary’s Hospital, where he died.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Holland said. Police continue to investigate.
