The 14-year-old victim watched the man she told police sexually assaulted her walk toward the Git ‘N Split at 2801 O St. Saturday afternoon.
On Tuesday, Lincoln police released surveillance images of a man fitting the description she gave. The images were captured by a video camera inside the gas station minutes after she said she was assaulted.
They show a man wearing a black stocking cap and red jacket at the store counter at 1:05 p.m.
Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said the man was described by the victims as 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, about 170 pounds and in his 20s. She also said he was wearing a red jacket and dark blue or gray jeans.
The girl told investigators she was walking along 27th Street about a block south of O on her way to a friend’s house about 1 p.m. Saturday. She said a man she didn’t know approached.
The girl told police she spoke with the man briefly, then said she needed to leave. He pulled her into a stairwell behind a closed office building at 140 S. 27th St. and assaulted her, she said, threatening to hurt her if she screamed.
After the assault, she told police, the man told her to leave and she went to her friend’s house, where she told an adult what happened.
She said she last saw him walking toward the store.
