A 47-year-old transient has been charged with felony shoplifting on suspicion of stealing four Reese’s Crispy Crunch Bars from a Lincoln convenience store.

Police ticketed Carl Leapley on suspicion of taking the candy bars from U-Stop, 610 S. 10th St., at about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

Officer Kacky Finnell said a U-Stop employee called in to report that a man walked in the store, picked up the 79-cent candy bars and left on foot. An officer found Leaply nearby, dropping empty candy bar wrappers. Finnell said he was cited and taken to Detox because he was intoxicated.

Because Leapley has two prior theft convictions, in 2004 and 2005, Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Rodney Reuter filed the case as a felony. Leapley was set for court Oct. 18, but failed to appear, according to court records.
