The Lincoln City Council lifted a longtime ban on alcohol in city parks, but only during fundraisers for the parks department.

The council approved legislation allowing alcohol during events at Hazel Abel Park, Stransky Park, Sunken Gardens, Antelope Park Rose Garden and Pioneers Park Nature Center. City officials estimate only two or three events annually would be held.

Seven people testified in support of the ordinance last week, the police chief was neutral and nobody testified against.
