ELMWOOD -- Nebraska author Bess Streeter Aldrich had a knack for capturing history in a way that took her readers back in time. Elmwood's Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation hopes to do just that at its annual spring banquet April 10.
The public event starts at 6 p.m. at the Elmwood School and will feature a county fair theme highlighted by nostalgic food and table décor.
Mary Johnson of Eagle will present "A Harvest of Quilts," featuring her collection of antique textiles.
Winners of the 2009-10 Bess Streeter Aldrich Short Story Contest will read excerpts from their entries.
Reservations are required; call (402) 994-3855 before April 6. The cost is $10.
The nonprofit foundation operates the Bess Streeter Aldrich House & Museum and has sponsored a short story contest since 2003. See www.BessStreeterAldrich.org.
