A burglar who entered a small apartment building at 18th and G streets around midnight Saturday opened some water heater overflow valves, flooding the lower level with four inches of water, said Lincoln Police Sgt. Tom Hamm.
The burglar also shattered the building's back door to get inside.
Mark Schultz, the building's owner, said he suspected it was a disgruntled former tenant. The building has been purposefully flooded before, he said.
Two apartment units were flooded. Schultz didn't have a precise damage estimate at 6 p.m. Sunday, but he guessed the loss would be in the thousands of dollars.
