Lincoln police arrested a former Wagey Drug employee on Friday, more than a year after opening an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of more than $130,000.

Amy E. Topping, 31, 431 Knox St., was arrested on suspicion of felony theft, Lincoln Police Capt. Anthony Butler said.

According to police reports, Topping worked in accounts receiving at the locally owned drug store, at 800 N. 27th St.

From April 2004 to December 2007, Topping allegedly manipulated Wagey Drug’s daily deposit worksheets, skimming money from the company, Butler said. During that time, according to police records, Wagey Drug reported $130,948 in theft.

The six-figure loss averages out to about $130 a day over the 33 months during which the money  allegedly was stolen.

Gary Rihanek, owner of Wagey Drug, declined to comment on the arrest, saying only that the store turned the case over to police a year ago.

Topping has no prior criminal record in Lincoln.
