The two Democratic Senate candidates have agreed to a debate next month, but not a date.

The debate will be sponsored by the Lancaster County Democratic Party.

Candidate Scott Kleeb has committed to the debate, campaign manager Jeff Jacobs says, but not the date. The campaign for Tony Raimondo says it has agreed to April 12 and is holding that date.

Kleeb is a Yale-educated former ranch hand who teaches history at Hastings College. He faces Raimondo, a longtime Columbus industrialist with extensive ties to the state’s business community. Neither man has held public office, and each has until the May 13 primary to win over Nebraska Democrats.

The winner will likely face Republican Mike Johanns, a former governor and U.S. agriculture secretary, in the general election.
