Candidate debates set for Monday

The League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County is holding a series of debates Monday featuring candidates on the ballot for the Nov. 4 general election.

The League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County is holding a series of debates Monday featuring candidates on the ballot for the Nov. 4 general election.

The debates will run from 1:15 to 8:30 p.m. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M St. Recordings will be aired on channel 5.

Linda Duckworth, Presidentof the League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha, will open the debates at 12:15 p.m. with a presentation on Susan B. Anthony.

The debate schedule is shown below. Party affiliations are noted for partisan races.

1:15 to 1:45 p.m.: County Commissioner District 2: Larry Hudkins (Republican), Barbara Baier (Democrat)

2 to 2:30 p.m.: County Commissioner District 4: Bernie Heier (R), Nancy Intermill (D)

3 to 3:30 p.m.: NU Board of Regents District 1: Earl Scudder, Tim Clare

3:45 to 4:45 p.m.: Unicameral District 21: James Jeffers, Ken Haar

5 to 6 p.m.: Unicameral District 25: Travis Wagner, Kathy Campbell

6:15 to 7:15 p.m.: Unicameral District 27: Colby Coash, Dan Marvin

7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Unicameral District 29: Tony Fulton, Susan Scott

A debate among the candidates for the U.S. Senate was canceled because candidates Mike Johanns (R) and Scott Kleeb (D) were unable to attend. The other candidates are Steve Larrick (Green) and Kelly Renee Rosberg (Nebraska).

A debate between the candidates for Congressional District 1 was canceled because Jeff Fortenberry (R) was unable to attend. The other candidate is Max Yashirin (D).

Audience members are asked to not wear or otherwise display items indicating support of specific candidates while in the debate area.
