With gasoline prices at about $3 a gallon, Gov. Dave Heineman is encouraging Nebraskans to vacation close to home this summer.

He is promoting a new tourism campaign called “More Vacation. Less Travel.” It is designed to entice Nebraskans to visit attractions close to home such as the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Fort Robinson, Mahoney State Park and Chimney Rock.

“This is a great year to explore and get to know Nebraska,” he said.

The governor on Thursday encouraged people to visit the state’s Web site, www.nebraska.gov, to check out areas of interest.
