Vigil for health reform is set

Faith leaders, farmers, small business owners, workers, doctors and advocacy groups will speak out in support of health reform on the steps of the State Capitol during a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday.

After the vigil, participants will march to the Lincoln offices of Sens. Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns to encourage them to allow the health reform bill to be debated and voted on.

Speakers include Pastor Debra McKnight of First United Methodist Church, small business owner Rick Poore and Dr. Amanda McKinney.

Organizations putting on the vigil and march are Nebraska Farmers Union, Nebraska State Education Association, Interfaith Workers Justice, Nebraska Appleseed, AFSCME, MoveOn, NAACP, Justice and Advocacy Ministries ELCA-NE, Change That Works Nebraska, Change To Win, Nebraskans United for Change, AFL-CIO, Nebraskans for Peace and Teamsters Local 554.
