Lightning struck several Lincoln structures between 6 and 7 p.m. during Monday’s thunderstorm.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to “at least three or four or five” reports of lightning strikes,  said Capt. Scott Wiebe.

Parts of Lincoln received up to an inch-and-a-half of rain during the storm, said Josh Boustead, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Residents of a house on the 3700 block of Madison Avenue got out safely when lightning struck, Wiebe said. While it was difficult to tell where the bolt hit, its effects were easy to spot: the charge shorted a doorbell, caused gutters to arc, and affected some drywall, Wiebe said.

People inside the Berean Church, 6400 S. 70th, said they felt lightning strike the roof, said Capt. Scott Bastin. No one was hurt.

The phone system was out of service but the church did not sustain structural damage, Bastin said.

The storm caused four small power outages in central Lincoln, said Russ Reno, spokesman for Lincoln Electrical System.

Two outages were caused by tree limbs falling onto power lines, and two were caused by lightning , Reno said. Each outage affected about 20 customers, and power was restored in less than an hour, he said.

Boustead said today would be “a very seasonable day,” with highs in the upper 70s and partly to mostly sunny skies. No rain is expected.
