The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office plans a safety checkpoint on U.S. 77 just north of Nebraska 33 Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 8 p.m.
Vehicles will be selected in a systematic fashion and checked to make sure the safety equipment is working properly, all the proper documentation is in the vehicle and that all occupants are properly restrained.
From 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., additional deputies will conduct a saturation patrol to watch for traffic violations.
The checkpoint is part of the statewide "Click It or Ticket" campaign to promote use of seat belts and child safety seats. Overtime for deputies is paid through a Nebraska Highway Safety Office grant.
