A California man was arrested and nearly 200 pounds of marijuana were seized during an Interstate 80 traffic stop near the Goehner exit Wednesday, a Nebraska State Patrol spokesman said Thursday.
A trooper stopped an eastbound Honda SUV for speeding at about noon and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, Cody Thomas said in a news release.
Troopers searched the SUV and found 199 pounds of marijuana in duffel bags and a loaded handgun that had been defaced, Thomas said.
Investigators estimated the marijuana was worth $600,000 on the street, he said.
The driver, Edgar Gonzalez, 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a defaced firearm, and no drug tax stamp.
He was taken to the Seward County jail, where he remained Thursday.
