A 32-year-old Lincoln man died late Friday after jumping from a bridge over Interstate 80 and landing on the windshield of a moving semitrailer, authorities say.
Lancaster County sheriff's deputies learned of the incident after someone reported the semi had gone off the road. When deputies arrived, the driver told them he'd hit a man, Sheriff Terry Wagner said Monday.
It happened beneath the 84th Street overpass at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Wagner said Lincoln police had been looking for the man because of a suicidal text he sent a friend.
He apparently jumped from the overpass and hit the truck's windshield, sending the eastbound truck into the ditch, where it hit a fence. The impact killed the man who jumped, Wagner said.
The driver suffered cuts to his face and a broken sternum.
