Police are investigating how a car ended up upside-down in a drainage channel in northeast Lincoln early Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Just after 4 a.m., a passer-by saw an overturned car in the creek bed just north of Ballard Park, Lincoln Police Officer Angela Sands said.

No one was in the car, but the key was in the ignition. Officers tried to find the owner, but she wasn't home, Sands said.

Later, the owner called police to report the car stolen. A child seat had been removed from the car.
