A Lincoln man and woman have been charged with human trafficking in Hall County.

Marcuiece L. Johnson, 28, and Katie M. Brandt, 21, are each charged with two felony counts of human trafficking.

The pair also is charged with two counts of pandering. Additionally, Johnson is charged with first-degree sexual assault.

Johnson and Brandt are accused of engaging in the sex trafficking of a woman between Dec. 11 and 16 in three states, according to court documents.

A search warrant filed Dec. 24 asks for permission to search Johnson’s 2003 Cadillac for receipts, bills, identification, price lists and other items.

The warrant, written by Deputy Sheriff Frank Bergmark, says that on Dec. 17, Hall County deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers were sent to a rural Hall County hotel in reference to a disturbance. When they arrived, a woman told police she had been doing acts of prostitution for Johnson. She said Brandt supplied her with condoms and advice for the purposes of prostitution, Bergmark wrote.

The woman told deputies Johnson recruited her from Little Rock, Arkansas, where he told her she’d make “a lot of money doing ‘massages,’” the warrant says.

Once they left the state, the woman told deputies Johnson said he owned her and took the money she made, Bergmark wrote.

Johnson and Brandt are set for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 2.

The maximum sentence for the human trafficking charges is 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
