An Endicott man died at a Lincoln hospital last week after apparently suffering a heart attack while in the Jefferson County jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
A news release from Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorensen says jail staff in Fairbury found Mark Scheetz unresponsive in his cell May 7, two days after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault and terroristic threats at a house in Endicott.
The news release offered little information on the circumstances of his arrest. Jefferson County Attorney Jeff Goltz didn't respond to messages left with his office Monday.
Scheetz, 61, was taken to Jefferson Community Health and Life for treatment of the apparent heart attack, Sorensen's release says. He was then flown to Bryan West Campus in Lincoln, where he died Friday afternoon.
A grand jury will review the death because Sheetz's medical emergency began while he was held in jail.
