Lincoln has seen an increase in lower-denomination counterfeit bills being passed, Officer Angela Sands said Tuesday.
The most recent report involved a Lincoln man who tried to pay at Menard's on Monday with a $10 bill and was notified it was counterfeit. The man said he had received the bill in exchange for a $20 at Casey's General Store, 1445 S. 17th St.
Casey's is reviewing video surveillance.
Whether people are receiving cash from a person or a store, Lincoln police urge them to inspect it to look for obvious signs of counterfeiting.
