A corrections officer was hospitalized Monday morning after being assaulted by two boys at Lancaster County's juvenile detention center, County Board Chairman Todd Wiltgen said.
One of the boys became agitated after breakfast in the dining room of the Youth Services Center around 8 a.m., Wiltgen said.
As staff tried to de-escalate the situation, the boys assaulted the correctional officer.
He was taken to the hospital for observation for facial cuts that were not believed to be life-threatening, Wiltgen said.
Other staffers sustained minor injuries but didn't need medical treatment, and the boys were uninjured, the commissioner said.
"At no time were any of the other youth or staff in danger," Wiltgen said.
The staffer has since been released from the hospital.
This is the first time in recent memory that a staff member has needed hospital treatment in an incident at the center, Wiltgen said.
Lincoln police are investigating the incident.
