A new service allows holders of concealed-carry handgun permits to renew them online.

More than 400 applications have already been submitted online since the new service launched Sept. 12, according to a news release from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Current permit holders can renew their permits online for the $50 statutory fee plus a processing fee. Replacement permits are free.

Previously, permit holders needed to go to one of the State Patrol's six branch offices to renew a license or get a replacement, the release said.

The service was developed by Nebraska Interactive, a contractor that runs the state's website, the release said.

The service can be found online at nebraska.gov/apps-nsp-chp.
