A 19-year-old aspiring porn star who got in trouble with the law by sneaking onto the campus at Lincoln Pius X High School and posing for naked pictures on the football field got jail time Friday for the stunt.

But Valerie Dodds filed notice of appeal soon after her sentencing hearing and was released on a $75 bond later in the day.

At the late-morning hearing, she said just one word — "no" — when asked if she wanted to say anything. Then Lancaster County Judge Thomas Fox gave her 45 days in jail and deputies took her away in handcuffs.

That Dodds' photo shoot occurred on school property was shocking, Fox said.

Last month, he found her guilty at a bench trial of trespassing and public nudity for the May 13 late-night photo shoot, during which she posed with her breasts exposed outside Aldrich Field, lying nude on the turf and sitting naked on a concrete bench.

Dodds, who performs under the name Val Midwest, posted the photos on the Internet and said on her website it was revenge for students, alumni and teachers of the school who criticized her when she announced her porn career.

In court Friday, defense attorney Chad Wythers argued unsuccessfully to continue sentencing to give Dodds time to meet with the probation office for an interview she missed. Fox refused.

Wythers didn't ask for a specific sentence, but argued that people convicted of first-offense DUI cause more risk to others "than parading around naked," and the most they get is a week in jail.

Wythers said he didn't think the judge had to be concerned about a sentence that would deter others from doing the same or to deter Dodds from doing the same thing again.

"This whole process has operated as a deterrent for her," he said.

But Christine Loseke of the City Attorney's Office said Dodds has shown absolutely no remorse for what she's done and that giving her a fine would be a slap on the wrist.

"I think she deserves jail for what she did," Loseke said.

Then Fox handed down the 30-day sentence for trespassing, plus 15 days for public nudity, and said simply "no" when asked if she could report to jail in January.

Dodds looked incredulous as a deputy walked up to handcuff her.

Half an hour earlier, she had posted a message on her Facebook page that said: "Alright alright alright alright!!! Sentencing today!!!!"

With credit for good time, she will have to serve 30 days if her conviction and sentence is upheld.

Her case next will go to Lancaster County District Court where a judge will consider her appeal.
