Registration opened Thursday for the 35th annual Lincoln National Guard Marathon, and already more than 3,000 runners have signed up to compete.

Registration will close at 10,000 runners, according to race co-director Gary Bredehoft.

The 2012 event will begin at 7 a.m. May 6, with marathon (26.2 miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles) races.

Registration is available at lincolnrun.org. Entry is $80 for the marathon and $60 for the half-marathon.
