The following is a rundown of family activities for the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 4:

Friday

Early New Year's Eve party -- 2-3 p.m., Eiseley Branch Library, 1530 Superior St.

Saturday

Bilingual story time -- 10-11 a.m., Indigo Bridge Books, 701 P St. Book: "Un Dia De Nieve" by Ezra Jack Keats. Free.

"The Story of Ferdinand" story time -- 11-11:30 a.m., Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 5150 O St. and SouthPointe Pavilions locations. Free.

Sunday

New Year's Eve closings -- Lincoln Public Libraries, Lincoln Children's Museum (will open at 6:30 p.m. for special ticketed event), University of Nebraska State Museum and Morrill Hall, Nebraska History Museum, Homestead National Monument of America closes at 2 p.m., Pioneers Park Nature Center closes at 3 p.m.

Make Believe Midnight -- family-friendly event, 6-8:30 p.m., Lincoln Children's Museum, 1420 P St. Dance party, bubble wrap stomp and balloon drop. $10/members, $13/non-members. Register at 402-477-4000 or lincolnchildrensmuseum.org.

Monday

Tuesday

Celebrate Star Wars: Light Saber Training -- with the Husker Saber Academy, 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 3-4 p.m., Bennett Martin Public Library, auditorium, 136 S. 14th St. Light saber duel, training and obstacle course. All day Star Wars movie.

Library storytimes -- Toddler: 10, 10:35 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Gere Branch; 10:30 a.m., Bethany Branch. Preschool: 7 p.m., Eiseley Branch. Wee Workouts (preschool): 10:30 a.m., Eiseley Branch. 

Build a New Year LEGO event -- build with LEGOS and enjoy a family-friendly movie, 2-4 p.m., South Branch Library, 2675 South St.

Wednesday

Thursday

Shows and exhibits

Planetarium astronomy shows -- "Firefall" 11 a.m. Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays. "Solar Superstorms" noon Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays; "Big Red Sky Tour," 1 p.m. Saturdays. Hyde Observatory shows -- 7-10 p.m. Saturdays, Hyde Observatory, Holmes Lake. Free. Reservations available for Monday-Thursday nights. 402-441-7094. The Observatory will be closed Dec. 30 in observance of the holidays.
