Stephen Charles Heilman

September 25, 1944 - September 11, 2017

Stephen Charles Heilman, 72, of Holland, Michigan, formally of, 'out there' Nebraska, died suddenly on Monday morning, September 11, 2017. He was born on September 25, 1944 in Waltham, Massachusetts. He graduated from Waltham High School and attended the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. Steve worked as a manager of Global Call Center Services for NCR Corp for 35 years and retired in 2001.

Steve experienced life to its fullest. He was a renaissance man, could fix anything, loved the outdoors, biking, hiking, walking dogs, contrary farming, but most of all loved the sea. He built several boats and spent much time sailing in Plymouth Harbor, Cape Cod, the Chesapeake, and Lake Macatawa. Steve was a member of the Holland Church in Holland, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Heilman;, two daughters and one son. Gretchen Heilman Piper and husband, Daniel, of Swan Lake, Maine, Holly Heilman and husband, Matthew Horwitz-Lee of Baltimore, and Tristan Heilman who is a sophomore at University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science; four grandchildren, Yukon, Maeve, and Bliss Piper, and newest grandchild born August 27, 2017, Bodhi Phoenix Lee; one brother, Dana Heilman and wife, Adrienne; and one sister, Linda Bishop; brother-in-law, Steven Davis and wife, Elise; and brother-in-law, James Davis and wife, Jennifer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death are mother, Louise Belfray Heilman, and father, Charles Rude Heilman.

Celebration of Steve's life will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 16, at the Holland Church, Holland, Nebraska, followed by a church luncheon. Memorials in Steve's honor include The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, The Down Syndrome of Greater Cincinnati, or the Holland Church.
