Octavin Wayne "Babe" Smejdir, 72, of Crete, died Monday, August 20, 2012. He was born March 15, 1940 near Dorchester to James and Albie (Skala) Smejdir. He recently retired from being a feed salesman. He was a Crete High School graduate, former naval reservist, Jaycee, and Boy Scout leader. He is also a member of the United Church of Christ, First Congregational in Crete.
"Babe" is survived by his wife, Karen; sons and daughters-in-law: Tim and Lori of Crete, Trent and Pam of Waverly; daughters and sons-in-law: Tracey and Eric Feeken of Lincoln, Tammy and Tom Eidenschink of Bemidji, Minn.; grandchildren: Brandon, Kelsie, and Zach Smejdir, Seth, Serra, and Molly Feeken, Lucas and Tanner Smejdir, and Kyle Winchell; sister and brother-in-law: Gloria and Dennis Shandera; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Steve and Trudy Beachler, Chuck Sonday and Leona Kolbet, Randy and Candy Wilson, Roger and Terri Fritzen, Tom and Deb Velder, Dick and Ronda Sonday; aunt, Leona Skala; nieces and nephews. His family of co-workers and customers and Karen's special friends and their families. Special friend, Terry Henke. Many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Jim, Vern, and Dorman.
Memorial service and luncheon will be Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, First Congregational in Crete. Cremation, no visitation. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, to the family for future designation. Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete is in charge of arrangements.
