February 10, 2018
Richard H “Rick” Vollertsen, 61, was unexpectedly taken from his family on February 10, 2018. He passed on the family farm where he was born, raised, and continued to live in Palmyra.
Rick loved his three children Jake, Sarah and Erin; Roxie, his grandchildren, the farm, and a good Elmore Leonard novel, in no particular order. He devoted his life to his children; never missing a practice, game or graduation. He joyfully danced at all three of his children's weddings. Rick found love later in life. He was devoted to Roxie and expanded his family by welcoming her children into his life. Rick and Roxie enjoyed living on the farm, music and doting on their grandchildren.
Rick was a devoted son and brother and is survived by brother, Michael Vollertsen; sisters Amy Fitzpatrick and Julie Melli and is proceeded in death by his parents; Norm and Elva Vollertsen; brother, Randy Vollertsen.
Family will greet friends and loved ones from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (40th & Yankee Hill). A celebration of life will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 955 C Street, Palmyra on Friday, February 16, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a donation to local high school athletics and arts booster clubs.
