Earned his Bachelor of Science from Tennessee State University in plant science and his Master of Science from Montana State University in soil science. From 1984 to 1995, he was land manager for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center. He also volunteered at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Lincoln for many years.

Played string bass in the Big Band era of the 1930s and '40s as a road musician, and also in local bands for many years. Married Mae L. Boggs, Feb. 1, 1939. Employed, Gooch's, 37 years as assistant superintendent of the grain division before retiring in 1978. Resident of Lincoln since 1931. Member: Elks Club.

Gwendolyn "GwenGwendolyn "Gwen" Marie Searcy, 67, Wilber, formerly Lincoln and Tucson, Ariz., passed on into her new life of eternity Saturday (4/10/04), peacefully at home in her sleep. Born in Lincoln (4/30/36). Gwen was very active over the years in Lincoln real estate, community endeavors, Democratic politics, church activities and most recently served as chairwoman of the Lincoln High School 50th class reunion. Gwen was an energetic and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a loyal working companion with her husband. Don. At his side from their days at Kearney State College, through campaigns for 3rd Congressional District seat and the U.S. Senate, during Nebraska's celebration of our nation's bicentennial, to years of real estate service together, Gwen and Don loved their family, friends and community.
In addition to being a co-founder of what has become The Searcy Team of Home Real Estate, Gwen served as president of the Women's Council of Realtors and on several Realtor community committees. Gwen was active in her local church, serving on the building committee and singing in the church choir. Gwen loved bird-watching, Red Wing pottery, was an avid artist and loved taking trips with her grandkids.
