Michael Thomas "Mike" Malousek, age 64, of Shell Knob, Mo., passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in his home. He was born June 22, 1948, in Wahoo, the son of John and Eleanor (Tvrdy) Malousek. On May 1, 1989, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Elizabeth (Forster) McManaman, who survives. Mike, as most people knew him, grew up and received his education in Nebraska, graduating from high school in Weston He received his bachelor's degree, with honors, from Doane College in Lincoln. From 1968 until 1970, he served in Viet Nam with the United States Army and received the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and Distinguished Service Medal. He was employed as fiscal director for Lincoln Medical Education Foundation in Lincoln for over twenty years. In 2001, he pursued his dream of owning his own business by purchasing Kings River Marina with his wife, Marilyn. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob, Mo. Mike loved people, life and working outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was woodworking, and he was an avid Nebraska Husker football fan. Mike was a hard worker and always there to lend a hand. He was a great husband, father, friend and a proud "papa."
Also surviving are one daughter, Michelle Malousek of Eagle; three sons, Russell Malousek of Eagle, Kevin P. McManaman and Corey McManaman both of Lincoln; five brothers, Raynold Malousek and his wife, Georgianne of Wahoo, Leroy Malousek and his wife, Sharon of Lincoln, James Malousek and his wife, Jean of Weston, Dennis Malousek and his wife, Deb of Raymond, and Bernard Malousek of Lincoln; one sister, Lucille Trojan of Dwight, and one grandson, Dalton Michael Conradt.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, with viewing beginning at 9:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church, Weston. Father Julius Tvrdy will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Weston. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Shell Knob. Rosary will be at 5 p.m. in the church, with Father John Braun, officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
