James R. Lyons, 99, Lincoln, died July 30, 2011. Born January 23, 1912 in Wagner, S.D. to Dennis and Beatrice (Pesek) Lyons. Devoted father, grandfather, friend. In his first career Jim taught school. He served in the U.S. Army for 28 years and was commonly called "Sarge." After retiring from the Army he was in charge of records at the Nebraska Penitientiary. His desire to be busy led Jim to work at the Nebraska Legislature until the age of 97. He worked for numerous years for the election board. He was known to visit schools and share his numerous life experiences. Jim was a proud veteran of W.W.II, Korea and Vietnam. He was recognized as the nation's top recruiter during his time recruiting in the Lincoln area. Jim was always willing to lend a hand and he was known as the "fix-it" man. He loved gardening. Jim had a strong commitment to his faith. His passion and legacy were his family; he was adored and will be missed by all.
