December 15, 1931 - December 3, 2017
Lannes Clifford Despain, son of William and Hazel Despain, was born on December 15, 1931, in Vichy, Mo., and passed away on December 3, 2017, in Lincoln, at the age of 85. Lannes served in the Navy as a diesel engineer from 1951-1955 on the USS Henrico. Part of his job was riding in Higgins boats and making sure they worked properly. Lannes married Winona Brewer on January 1, 1953. They were married for 63 years before her passing in March of 2016. Lannes was a bus driver for Waverly schools for 12 years. He was also an avid model railroader and a proud veteran.
Lannes is survived by his son Franklin (Nancy) Despain; daughters Leannes (Bradley) Boellstorff and Shelley (John) Holt; 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Winona, and great granddaughter McKenna Smith.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, at Temple Baptist Church, 4940 Randolph St. Memorials can be directed to Temple Baptist Church.
