Joyce J. Hume, 87, of Morton, Ill., formerly of Prospect Heights, Ill. and Lincoln, passed away peacefully at her home, Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, surrounded by her family. Joyce was born July 3, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to the late Joe and Nadine (Randolph) Hardwick. She met her high school sweetheart, Dolan Hume, in San Bernardino, Calif., and they married on Sept. 10, 1949, in Las Vegas, Nev. Joyce was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family gatherings, baking and knitting. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights.
She is survived by her husband, Dolan, of Morton; two sons, Craig Hume of Dunlap, and Corey (Brenda Wixom) Hume of Morton; one daughter, Sharon (Patrick) Nudo of Prospect Heights, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Danielle (Lexa) Hume, Jake (Jennifer) Hume, Matthew Hume, Caitlin (Nick) Marinig, Sarah Hume, Taylor Hume, Joe Nudo, and Sam Nudo; and four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Brianna, Sawyer, and Aiden. Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Jo Katzka of Encinitas, Calif. and Patricia Coogan of Modesto, Calif., and granddaughter, Briana Hume.
The family will be receiving friends for a celebration of life gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 8, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights, Ill. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Crescent 8 as well as the home health caregivers for the excellent care Joyce received over the recent months.
