Duane Bokemper, 78, passed away peacefully at home on 12/29/11 following a short battle with mesothelioma. Duane was born April 3, 1933 to Edward and Martha Bokemper in Wakefiled. Duane worked on the family farm until he was called to active duty in the Korean War. Following his discharge he was married to Doris Fischer in Wakefield on August 21, 1955, where they raised their children on the family farm. In 1968, the family moved to Lincoln where Duane worked for the Nebraska American Legion for twenty six years before retiring. He then became a handy-man for ten years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doris; son, Richard and wife, Theresa, Bokemper of Sgt Bluff, Iowa; daughter, Susan and husband, Joe, Schaffer of Lincoln; daughter, Sally and husband, Jim, Hakel also of Lincoln. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jake and wife Marisa Schaffer, Max Schaffer, Michael, Laura and Brent Bokemper, Scott Bokemper and fiance, Alyssa Jensen, Desirae and Nolan Hakel, and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mardelle Nordstrom.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2O12 at First Lutheran Church. The family requests memorials to the American Legion Scholarship Program, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Condolences to lincolnfh.com.
