KOLN/KGIN-TV will start the New Year with a new anchor.

The Lincoln CBS affiliate hired Dave Roberts to co-anchor the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Vanessa Flowers beginning Sunday.

He replaces John Fortney, who left 10/11 Dec. 1 to become news director and anchor at NBC affiliate WTAP-TV in Parkersburg, W.Va.

Roberts has more than 10 years experience, including six in Nebraska. He is a co-executive producer for Omaha CBS affiliate KMTV, where he reports, writes and anchors weekend newscasts.

Prior to KMTV, Roberts spent time at stations in Iowa and Minnesota, where he gained experience ranging from anchoring newscasts to studio lighting.

"I've worked in almost every position that a television station has to offer," he said in KOLN news release. "To me, it's still magical."

During his career, Roberts has earned three first-place awards from The Associated Press, and two first-place awards from the Iowa Broadcast News Association. The Nebraska Broadcasters Association has awarded him gold medals for both "general news" and "breaking news."

"Nebraska has been a great place to raise my kids; my wife is very happy here," Roberts said in the release. "When I saw an opportunity to move to a place like Lincoln -- a community that has so much to offer -- it was something I couldn't pass up."
