NRG Media named David Dwinell as co-host of the morning show at Lincoln news-talk radio station KLIN, the company announced Friday.
He will begin Monday, teaming with Jack Mitchell on “Jack and Dave in the Morning” from 6 to 9 a.m. weekdays.
Dwinell, 46, will leave KLKN-TV, where he served as promotions director since 1996. He worked in radio, primarily at FM country station KX 96.9 (KZKX), prior to joining KLKN.
His on-air name at KLIN (1400 AM) will be Dave Miller.
He replaces John Bishop, who left KLIN to co-host “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” on Omaha sports station 1620 The Zone, which also is owned by NRG Media.
Dwinell served as one of Mitchell’s guest co-hosts while KLIN conducted its talent search to replace Bishop.
“I had no idea I was potentially auditioning,” Dwinell said. “I just went in and had a good time. I must have struck a chord because they asked me to come back.”
Operations manager Steve Albertsen said Dwinell was what the station was looking for in a co-host.
“He has a solid understanding of what’s important to the lives of Lincoln residents and we feel he has the ability and knowledge to entertain on a wide range of topics,” Albertsen said.
In other KLIN news, the station promoted Kevin Thomas to program director and Chris Whitney to sports director, positions previously held by Bishop.
Thomas has worked at KLIN since 2007 and currently hosts “Drive Time Lincoln,” a local talk show airing from 4:30 to 6 p.m. weekdays.
Whitney is co-host of KLIN’s “Husker Hour” and the Friday “Huskermax Tailgate” program. He also delivers the news during the morning show.
