Tom Crew is returning to the Haymarket Theatre.

The board announced last week the longtime local actor will become its artistic director, effective immediately. He replaces Nathan Norcross, who left in early spring after just a few months on the job.

Crew served as Haymarket Theatre's interim artistic director from April 2010 to July 2011. The theater is home to children's and adult programming.

"I am very excited to be back at the Haymarket Theatre after almost six years," Crew said in a press release. "I consider this theater to be my home, and I look forward to working with our board, area actors, and the wonderful youth in creating a home for top caliber performances and programming.

"I am elated about this opportunity to help shape the Haymarket Theatre into the venue of choice for artists, patrons and youth. This is an exciting time to grow a program in the most vibrant area in Lincoln, with a dedicated board, and with the vision to keep the arts vital in our lives."

Crew has a bachelor's degree in theater from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a master's degree in social work from Michigan State University. He's acted and directed on numerous Lincoln stages.

"His return is the first step in our efforts to continue to grow and expand the theater's value to the community in Lincoln," said Amber Brethouwer, interim Haymarket Theatre board president.
