Josh Hoyer is a member of Team Blake and on to the next round of “The Voice.”
The veteran Lincoln soul singer delivered a version of the Chi-Lites' 1972 classic “Oh Girl” during the blind auditions on the NBC singing competition. Two coaches turned their chairs -- Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
Hoyer chose country singer Shelton.
“I love how much character he has in his voice, how much soul,” Shelton said. “Going forward, I want to keep him in that lane.”
Hoyer’s family was on hand for the show taping in Los Angeles several weeks ago. They also figured prominently in his background story of a 40-year-old family man taking a final shot at music. The segment also showed Hoyer working as a bartender at the Zoo Bar and a performance there with his band Soul Colossal.
Hoyer and Soul Colossal are currently on a monthlong European tour.
“Life is really good right now, and the band and I are very thankful for these great opportunities after putting in so much hard work,” Hoyer posted on the band’s Facebook page. “Just finished up a gig in Alencon, France in time to see The Voice episode air.
