The local groups were key to the music venue's success, its booking manager said.
Box Awesome will hold its last show Tuesday night after two years of business.
The music venue, 815 O St., recently settled a dispute with its landlords that alleged Box Awesome was late on rent and in breach of contract.
Doors open at 8 p.m., and cover is pay what you please. The three local bands performing (Somasphere, Triggertown and Plack Blague) had been instrumental in the building of the Box, said booking manager Jeremy Buckley. They're going to see the spot through to the end.
"We want this show to be a celebration," he said, "rather than a bummer."
Box Awesome's closing comes a few months after owners expanded to the newly opened Bourbon Theatre, 1415 O St. They had intended to keep both locations open.
The goal for Box Awesome owners and staff now, Buckley said, is to focus on the Bourbon and get a new venue of the Box's ilk opened by the end of the year.
"This is definitely going to limit the options of bands coming through town for a while," he said. "I'm interested to see how it plays out and affects the overall vibe of the music scene."
