With the release this week of "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Daddy's Home 2," the first of many sequels and remakes to come, the 2017 holiday movie season is officially engaged.
As always, that season is bifurcated — with major Hollywood studios releasing what they hope will be some of the biggest money-making movies of the year in the weeks immediately before Thanksgiving through Christmas, while small "prestige pictures" looking for awards nominations make their way to a few screens.
Because Lincoln has only 32 commercial movie screens and the Ross Media Arts Center is booked through December, it’s likely — unless otherwise designated — that few, if any, of the prestige pictures will come to the Capital City on their release dates. And some may never play here at all. That said, here’s a rundown of the most intriguing prestige pictures -- and the moneymakers.
