“The Closer” and “Major Crimes.”

My favorite TV drama, “The Closer,” goes out with a bang Monday. Here’s a big “thank you very much” to Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by Kyra Sedgwick, for the entertaining seven seasons of the show on TNT. Following the series finale is the premiere of “Major Crimes,” with the same great “Closer” cast led by soft-spoken Capt. Sharon Raydor, played by Mary McDonnell. Raydor brings her own style of justice to the LAPD. I’m already hooked.

Bean dip. My friend Margaret whips up an appetizer that keeps me dipping tortilla chips nonstop. I hope she doesn’t mind my sharing the ingredients: one can of black-eyed peas, diced avocado and tomatoes, two chopped green onions and one-third cup zesty Italian dressing. Cilantro is optional. Whip it up and watch it disappear.

Ryan Gosling movies. I recently loaded up my Netflix queue with Gosling flicks after seeing his stellar performance as the good-hearted stuntman with violent tendencies in last year’s “Drive.” I had seen him opposite Anthony Hopkins in 2007’s “Fracture,” but nothing since until “Drive.” My viewing list now includes “Half Nelson,” “All Good Things,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and “The Ides of March.”
