Samuel Gaskin is returning to Lincoln.
The young organist will be one of 18 students taking part in the first “Pipe Organ Encounter, Advanced,” which begins Sunday in Lincoln.
Gaskin of Beaumont, Texas, stayed in Lincoln with family during the hurricanes of 2005.
Then 14, he performed services and programs at several Lincoln churches.
In 2006, he joined the Boston Brass at the Meadowlark Music Festival. The following year he gave a short recital at Saint Paul United Methodist Church at an American Guild Organists regional convention.
“Pipe Organ Encounter, Advanced” is under the direction of University of Nebraska-Lincoln organ professor Christopher Marks.
A regular “POE” is a four- or five-day regional event organized by a local guild chapter to introduce teens to pipe organs. The advanced session takes learning a step higher.
