Third Chair Chamber Players will finish its season with the help of a homegrown composer.
The ensemble will perform four modern pieces, including Christian Ellenwood's romantic "Fantasy Pieces."
Ellenwood is a Lincoln native, a Lincoln Southeast High School graduate, who is now on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Performances are 8 tonight and 3 p.m. Sunday at The Loft at The Mill, Eighth and P streets.
"Fantasy Pieces" for clarinet, viola and piano was commissioned in 2003 by the MacDowell Music Club of Janesville, Wis., in celebration of its centennial year, Ellenwood said in an e-mail from Costa Rica, where he's having another piece of his premiered.
The club originally was the Schumann Club.
"Because of this, I wrote a piece which is solidly grounded in the harmonic and melodic vocabulary of German Romanticism, yet bridges to the contemporary period," Ellenwood wrote. "The combination of clarinet, viola and piano has been used by Mozart, Bruch and Schumann."
TCCP's concert will feature members Joe Holmquist (percussion), Clark Potter (viola), Donna Carnes (violin), Sheri Ericksen (piano) and Ed Love (clarinet).
Other works include Belá Bartok's "Contrasts," written for Benny Goodman and Bartok's lifelong friend and violinist Joseph Szigeti, Thea Musgrave's "Pierrot" and Tristan Fuentes' "PanAm."
Tickets are $20 and $5 for students. For reservations, call or text 429-8227 or visit www.tccp.us.
