The Independence Day weekend will be jammed with local celebrations and events. Here are a few of the highlights:

* The world's longest running road rally rolls into the Haymarket on Saturday.

The Great Race brings to the historic district vintage V-8 Fords, classic Corvettes and Chevrolets that are more likely to be seen in a museum than on the road.

The first cars will arrive at 1:15 p.m., but come early for the Farmers Market, an apple pie eating contest, autographs by Lincoln Saltdogs players and Applebee's food.

After the race, the Saltdogs play the Joliet Jackhammers at 7:05 p.m. and will host a fireworks display following the game.

* On Monday, the city hosts its third annual Oak Lake Park Fourth of July celebration.

Zambelli Internationale returns to Lincoln to present a fireworks display at 10 p.m., with the soundtrack broadcasting on Froggy 98, Kool 105.3, B107.3 and KLIN 1400 AM.

Oak Lake Park also hosts a full day of family-oriented activities, including a pancake feed, a classic car and motorcycle show and a concert featuring local country band Southern Cross.

More information on the day's events is available at the city Website, lincoln.ne.gov.

Here is the schedule of activities:

* For those in the Omaha area on the Fourth, Harrah's Casino in Council Bluffs will present its own fireworks display.

Fireworks begin at dusk — approximately 9:45 p.m. — and KGOR 99.9FM will broadcast the accompanying music.

Starting at 6 p.m., spectators can park in the north parking lot for $5. Concessions and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
