The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts will recognize four alumni and two students with awards this weekend, including Ann Rawley of Lincoln, who was given the school’s Award of Merit.

The Award of Merit honors those who have made contributions to the college but who are not necessarily college alumni.

A Smith College graduate, Rawley is known for her commitment to Lincoln’s performing arts, including giving her time and talent to UNL’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.

She has served on the Friends of the Rep board and has chaired the events committee for most of her tenure.

Rawley and the other award winners will be honored at an invitation-only  recognition dinner Saturday in the Johnny Carson Theater.

The college also will present Alumni Achievement Awards in art, music and theater. Award recipients are:

n John Nygren (art) of Walnut Cove, N.C., a senior member of the North Carolina glass art community and renowned American master.

n Frank Tirro (music) of North Haven, Conn., a music professor and former dean of the Yale University School of Music, who specializes in jazz history and Renaissance music.

n Bob Askey (theater) of Longmont, Colo., a Colorado TV/radio personality and politician, who is known for narrating more than 900 books on tape for the blind.

Student leadership awards go to Sarah Hranac (undergraduate) and Caitlin Applegate (graduate).
